Pellegrini welcomes selection headache

Manuel Pellegrini insists he does not have a selection headache as he considers which of his three prolific strikers to omit after Sergio Aguero made a goalscoring comeback.

Curtis: Awaiting the hundred

The Argentina international, who had missed eight games with a calf injury, scored his 20th goal of the season 49 seconds into his return as Manchester City beat Blackburn Rovers 5-0 in their FA Cup replay.

Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko took their tallies for the season to 21 and 15 respectively by both scoring twice as City booked a fourth-round date against Watford.

Summer signing Negredo has scored six times in his last three games and Bosnia international Dzeko has struck five times in the same period, giving Pellegrini a dilemma as he considers which is his strongest strike force in his preferred 4-4-2 formation.

But the City manager said: "For me, that is not a problem. It is a problem when you don't have players to choose. I think that Alvaro and Edin are in a very good moment. It is very important for the team that Sergio came back and scored."

City scored at least five goals for the seventh time at home already this season and have struck 99 times in all competitions this season.

And Pellegrini added: "I think it is an important amount of goals. I repeat when I arrived here it was very important to win a trophy but in a way that we play. It is important for the fans to come here to know we are going to try to play a very good game and score the highest amount of goals that we can."

Pellegrini rested captain Vincent Kompany and said midfielders Yaya Toure and David Silva, who sat out the Rovers game with minor knocks, should be available for Saturday's league game against Cardiff.

He added: "Vincent Kompany doesn't have any problem and I will see [on Thursday] to be 100 percent sure but I suppose both Silva and Yaya will be fit."

City, who are second in the Premier League and have a 6-0 advantage after the first leg of their Capital One Cup semifinal against West Ham, will take on Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League.

They are the only English club who are still in four competitions and Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer believes they could achieve an unprecedented quadruple.

He said: "People are talking about them winning all four and you can see that happening with the quality they have."
