'Villa and Anderlecht keen on Defour'

Steven Defour is likely to leave his club FC Porto and is attracting interest from Aston Villa and Anderlecht, his agent has said.

Steven Defour is determined to secure his place in Belgium's World Cup squad.
Steven Defour is determined to secure his place in Belgium's World Cup squad.

Defour has not started enough games for the Portuguese giants and, with fellow Belgium international Radja Nainggolan having moved to Roma, the midfielder has reason to be concerned about his chances of making it into the World Cup squad.

The 25-year-old's agent, Paul Stefani, told Het Nieuwsblad: "Steven will inform the Porto board that he wants to leave. With the World Cup in mind, he needs to play, to be in the starting lineup.

“Porto won't let him go just like that. They feel Steven is important in their future plans, but right now, he needs time on the pitch.”

Stefani said that Defour, who is under contract until 2016, could join Anderlecht in his native Belgium on loan, although Villa Park is an option.

“Aston Villa might become more concrete, but Anderlecht has been so for some time,” Stefani said. “They've said all along that they really want Steven.”
