Mulvey hopeful of Broich fitness

Brisbane Roar coach Mike Mulvey is optimistic that star playmaker Thomas Broich will be fit and firing for the showdown against Perth Glory.

Brisbane's finals hopes could hinge on the fitness of Thomas Broich
Mike Mulvey is hoping to have Thomas Broich fit for the match against Perth Glory.

However, Mulvey has already been forced to rule out Australia international Ivan Franjic for the trip out west.

Broich trained separately from the main group after picking up a knock to his leg in the recent 2-1 loss to Adelaide United.

But Mulvey backed the former German under-21 international’s “powers of recovery” to help him take his place in the Roar’s starting line-up.

"Ivan, I've probably put a pen through his name already. We need to give him time to recover properly," Mulvey told the ABC.

"Thomas, I'm more hopeful for. He definitely wants to play. That's the first point - you've got to be strong in your mind.

"Knowing him, his powers of recovery and determination, there's a good chance he'll be fit."

One of the hardest trips in the A-League, Mulvey said the Roar not only had to battle the long flight, but a Glory side revitalised under interim coach Kenny Lowe.

"We think we've got it down pat now with Perth," Mulvey said.

"One of the hardest things with travelling is the training facilities ... that makes an impact so we'll do our training here before we travel.

"There's been a fair bit of upheaval in Perth but I know (Glory coach) Ken Lowe well ... he's a very passionate man and that's been shown already. He's very organised and it seems like the ship has been righted.

"This is going to be a tough game for us, no doubt about it."
