Sunderland's Cabral seals Genoa loan

Sunderland midfielder Cabral has joined Genoa on loan until the end of the season after failing to earn a first-team spot on Wearside.

• Bruce denies Fletcher bid
• Premier Fantasy: New game
• Randall: More Man Utd misery

Cabral, 25, has not played a single Premier League minute since the opening day of the season and he was determined to move on in January in a bid to find more regular football.

Serie A side Genoa have offered the former Switzerland under-21 international that opportunity and he is keen to prove himself in Italy.

"I am here to help Genoa and to play,” Cabral told Sky Sport Italia. "Last year I've played in the Europa League and playing in that tournament again is my aim and I want to help Genoa make that."

Cabral was signed by Paolo Di Canio from FC Basel last summer but was unable to establish himself either under the Italian or his successor Gus Poyet.
