United form hurting Danny Welbeck

Danny Welbeck has conceded Manchester United’s form is “not good enough” and said it is hurting him as both a supporter and a Mancunian to see the side losing.

Payne: Worst case scenario looms
• Premier Fantasy: Play our new game

United have been beaten in all three games they have played in 2014 as they have embarked on their worst run for 13 years.

And the defending Premier League champions are only seventh in the table, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Welbeck told the Press Association: “Losing three on the bounce though is really not good enough and we want to put that right.

“Being a Manchester lad and being a United fan, there is extra passion inside me and it does hurt me when I see the team losing. It hurts a lot to see United not winning.

"I can understand why fans are concerned. We are not around the Champions League spots at the moment. We need to get our form back and just win the next matches.”

United’s last three games have seen them lose 2-1 to Sunderland in the Capital One Cup, to Swansea in the FA Cup and to Tottenham in the Premier League.

They face the Swans again at the weekend and Welbeck added: “It was very disappointing to go out of the FA Cup against Swansea and we have to rectify that at Old Trafford on Saturday.”

Welbeck admits he is at a loss to explain why United, who have won 13 league titles in the last 21 years, have lost their form.

He said: "I cannot pinpoint one thing why this is happening. We were champions last season and we know that the consistency in our game has not been good enough.

"It is a new experience for us all, but the main thing we have to do is look at the next game. Obviously we have to put it right but you can't look too far ahead.”
