Norwich: No Hoolahan transfer request

Norwich City have denied reports that midfield playmaker Wes Hoolahan, linked with a move to Aston Villa, has handed in a transfer request.

Wes Hoolahan was a key player for Paul Lambert at Norwich.

Premier Fantasy: Play our new game

Carrow Road chief executive David McNally said no members of the Norwich squad had submitted requests and that “no players will be sold against our will.”

Hoolahan, 31, was a key part of the team led from League One to the Premier League by Paul Lambert -- now the Villa manager -- but has found first-team opportunities more limited under Lambert’s successor, Chris Hughton.

Lambert is reportedly keen to link up again with the Republic of Ireland international as he looks to add more creativity to the Villa ranks.

But McNally told Norwich's official website: “The club's focus is on improving the squad during this transfer window. As we have always said, no players will be sold against our will.

“We have received no transfer requests this season and have no intention of releasing any of our senior players. Our focus this January, as with every transfer window, is very much on improving the squad.”
