Diouf set to leave Hannover

Hannover striker Mame Biram Diouf seems likely to leave this month as the club look to cash in on a player who will be out of contract in the summer -- with Cardiff City tipped to win the race for his signature.

Stoke are eager to bolster their attacking options.
Mame Biram Diouf could be returning to the Premier League in the winter transfer window.

Diouf, 26, joined Hannover two years ago for an undisclosed fee from Manchester United and has proved to be a hit in the Bundesliga, scoring 23 goals in 49 appearances.

The loss of Diouf will be a huge blow to Die Roten, who have struggled this season and currently sit four points above the relegation places.

The Senegal international has turned down several offers to renew his contract, and if he is not sold in the winter window he appears certain to move on at the end of the season for free.

In an interview with local newspaper Neue Presse, Hannover president Martin Kind said that the club would consider offloading Diouf before the end of the month.

“We are open to it,” Kind said. “Diouf could leave us in the winter, if we have solved our problems and we reach an agreement with the new club.

“Diouf has signalled that he wants to leave the club in the winter.”

Hannover are still searching for a replacement for Diouf, who has scored five Bundesliga goals this term. But once they have “signed one or two players” Hannover are willing to strike a deal.

German football magazine kicker has linked Diouf with a transfer to Cardiff, where he would become one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first signings. Diouf played for Molde before moving to Old Trafford, with Solskjaer a former manager of the Norwegian club though the pair were not at the club at the same time.
