Arsenal, BVB linked with Batshuayi

Standard Liege attacker Michy Batshuayi has been linked with a move to Arsenal or Borussia Dortmund after saying he does not think he will be playing in Belgium next season.

Batshuayi, 20, is believed to be high on Dortmund's list of targets as they look to replace Robert Lewandowski, who moves to Bayern Munich in the summer.

The Belgium under-21 international is also believed to be on Arsenal's radar and has said he would like to play for Arsene Wenger's side because they "give chances to young and gifted players."

Dortmund have refused to make the names of any of their transfer targets public, but Batshuayi has been frequently mentioned in German media reports.

The Brussels-born attacker, who has hit 14 goals in 21 games for Jupiler League leaders Liege, has a release clause in his contract that allows him to start negotiations over a move as soon as it has been triggered.

"I am ready for the next big step, and I don't think I'll be playing in Belgium next season," he told Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws last month.

"I’ve got two favourite clubs in Europe -- Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund. Borussia have got the right mix of quality and team spirit, and Arsenal hand chances to young and gifted players."

On Tuesday, German broadsheet Sueddeutsche reported that Standard owner Roland Duchatelet had confirmed that an eight million euro offer -- believed to be the amount of the release clause -- had been tabled.

"There are Premier League clubs watching him closely, but that's all," Sudinfo.be quoted Batshuayi's agent, Christophe Henrotay, as saying. "There are also serious possibilities in other major leagues.

"The situation is simple: if a club triggers his release clause, he can sit down and start negotiating with them.

"I've the mandate to negotiate a transfer. At this moment, no clubs have offered the full amount to trigger the clause. My player is still happy at Standard, but there's a lot of interest in him."
