Reid delighted to sign new Forest deal

Andy Reid has signed a new two-and-a-half year contract with Nottingham Forest, ending speculation that he may be about to join one of their Championship promotion rivals in this transfer window.

Andy Reid has been in excellent form for Forest this season.
Andy Reid has been in excellent form for Forest this season.

Reid told ESPN FC that he was always keen to stay at Forest, despite a host of offers from clubs also vying for promotion to the Premier League, as well as some top-flight clubs.

Although initial talks over a new deal did not progress as the Dubliner has hoped, progress was made this weekend and the 31-year-old was delighted to commit his future to the club he has devoted a decade of his career to.

“Everyone knows I love Nottingham Forest and I want to stay at the club for as long as I can, so I am delighted we got it sorted,” Reid, who is Forest’s leading scorer and top assists contributor this season, said.

“The manager knew I wanted to stay, the owner knew I want to stay and I’m pretty sure that most of the Forest supporters were keen for me to sign a new deal as well.

“I feel I am playing the best football of my career, I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in and the results I have been producing on the pitch would back up those comments.”

Reid turned in another starring performance as Forest thumped Premier League side West Ham 5-0 in the FA Cup on Sunday and he believes the club is moving in the right direction heading into 2014.

“We have been playing some great football in the last few weeks, passing the ball well and winning games against the top teams in the Championship,” he added.

“Billy Davies is a manager who has us meticulously prepared for every game we play and, while some might suggest the detail he goes into when analysing the opposition is a little over the top, I would beg to differ.

“I’d rather have as much information as possible on the opposition we are facing and, the way this manager goes about his work, no player in the Forest dressing room should go onto the pitch and get a surprise form what the opposition throw at us.

“People see our manager on TV and he looks like a stern guy who takes everything very seriously, but he is a lot more relaxed with the players and we are all enjoying working with him. He has a great record in the Championship and you can see why.

“We all believe there is a real chance for us to push for promotion in the second half of the season.”
