Nine-man Roma self-destruct at Juve

Serie A leaders Juventus remain on course for a third straight title with a 3-0 victory over second-placed Roma, who were forced to play with nine men for the final 13 minutes on Sunday.

Gladwell: Threats all over

It was a 10th successive win for Antonio Conte's team and saw them extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points at the halfway stage of the season -- the biggest lead of any club in Europe's major leagues.

Juventus were in complete control following goals from Arturo Vidal and Leonardo Bonucci, but Roma were still fighting to get back in the game.

A ball into the box found Carlos Tevez with his back to goal but the Argentine made room and a fool of a flailing Daniele De Rossi to flick a pass through to Vidal. He found himself in the six-yard box and duly beat Morgan De Sanctis at his near post.

Another home goal arrived in the 48th minute with a delightful Andrea Pirlo free-kick finding the incoming Bonucci at the back post, and he stretched out every inch he could to steer in.

De Rossi was sent off for a brutal tackle on Giorgio Chiellini and Leandro Castan was also shown a straight red card two minutes later after he handled on the goalline. Mirko Vucinic fired home the resulting penalty.

Also on Sunday, Fiorentina struggled at times before grinding out a 1-0 win against Livorno in a match which saw star striker Giuseppe Rossi injured again.

Gonzalo Rodriguez scored the only goal of the game in the 66th minute, heading home Borja Valero's corner from the centre of the box.

Rossi, who is the top scorer in Serie A, had two good first-half chances before limping off with a knee injury in the second period.

Livorno almost took the lead shortly before Fiorentina scored, when Ibrahima Mbaye was left unmarked but headed off the crossbar. The visitors went close again when Paulinho rounded Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto but Rodriguez got back to clear off the line.

Fiorentina moved provisionally level on points with third-placed Napoli, who host Sampdoria on Monday. Livorno remain two points off safety.

Earlier, Cagliari missed a penalty as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Chievo Verona. Mauricio Pinilla blasted his spot kick over the bar in the 66th minute after the Chilean forward had been tripped by Bostjan Cesar. It was the first penalty Chievo had conceded all season.
