Fabregas: I've got used to criticism

Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas has said he finds it difficult when he is whistled by the club's fans, but has grown used to living with criticism as his career has progressed.

Cesc Fabregas scored twice in Barca's fine 5-2 comeback win at Getafe.
Fabregas has sometimes been a target for the Barcelona crowd.

Fabregas can be a target for jeers when Barcelona are not playing well, with the most recent whistles coming during Barca's 2-1 win over Villarreal just before the winter break.

The World Cup, European Championships, Champions League, La Liga, FA Cup and Copa del Rey winner told Marca he had learned to accept criticism and try to put it to a positive use.

"Probably against Villarreal I played my worst game of the season," Fabregas, 26, said. "I misplaced some simple passes, which I do not normally do.

"In the most decisive moment, in the second goal of the game, I was there with the pass to Alexis [who teed up Neymar's winner]. So I was able to go home relaxed and calm.

"But it is not easy when you see that your own fans are not happy with you. I know they want the best from me, and I want to give that. You must try and make everything a positive, also criticism.

"I do not take it to heart as I did when I was younger, now I am calmer about it. I know how this sport is -- everything changes so quickly in football. The important thing is to work well and trust in yourself."

Fabregas, who has seven goals and nine assists in his 16 La Liga appearances this season, said he was playing probably his best football since returning to the Camp Nou in summer 2011, but said he wanted to keep his form going.

"The first half [of the season] has been my most consistent of all," he explained. "My first year at Barca was also good. In general, the first months of each season have been pretty good. I have had more problems in the second half. I hope I get more consistency this time."

Neymar's statistics are almost as good as those of Fabregas -- six goals and eight assists in La Liga -- with the Brazilian also netting a hat trick against Celtic in the Champions League.

"Goals come in runs," Fabregas said. "There are times when the ball does not want to go in, and others when it almost goes in without you wanting it.

"The goals are going in now for Neymar, which gives him some more confidence, calmness and freshness inside the area. The obsession to score can make you more nervous, especially in the moment of striking the ball."

Fabregas also said he had been keeping a close eye on Champions League last 16 opponents Manchester City, adding: "They have a very complete squad, balanced and competitive. They play a 4-4-2 and attack very well with runs from deep. They are fast and strong. It will be a difficult and exciting tie."
