Bob Bradley to coach Norwegian club

Former U.S. and Egypt men's team coach Bob Bradley was unveiled as the manager of Norwegian club Stabaek on Friday.

Bob Bradley has reportedly turned down Vancouver's offer to become head coach.
Bob Bradley will coach Norway club Stabaek.

The club, based in a suburb of Oslo, won the Tippeligaen title in 2008 and, though they were relegated to the second tier in 2012, they have now secured promotion back to the top flight.

Stabaek made the announcement on the club's official website, including in it a video of Bradley speaking in English.

Stabaek raced through the Norwegian league system in the 1990s, climbing from the fourth division to the top flight, and won their only league title in 2008.

"You don't get anywhere if you don't look and set the bar as high as possible," Bradley said in the video. "And I know that Stabaek has done that in their history. And that in recent years, when things have fallen off a little bit, it hasn't changed the mindset of the main people in the club, and it certainly hasn't changed the mindset of the supporters."

Due to the cold winter, the Norwegian season runs from spring until autumn, unlike most of Europe.

The 55-year-old Bradley most recently led Egypt's national team, but his contract wasn't renewed after the country failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup. The Bradley-led Egypt team lost out on a spot to Ghana, who were drawn in Group G for the tournament -- along with United States, Germany and Portugal.

"To make it all work we need to make sure we are in it together. The club has people who support it at all levels," he said. "I have a great sense that this is what the club is all about and I am glad to be part of it."

Stabaek sacked their former head coach, Petter Belsvik, last month.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
