PSG president targets UCL triumph

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al Khelaifi has said he wants the club to win the Champions League in the next four years and believes Laurent Blanc is the right man to lead them to glory.

Al Khelaifi has been at the helm since Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) took over the Ligue 1 club in summer 2011 and reiterated his ambition to claim European football's biggest prize soon.

Having seen PSG progress to the last 16, where they will face Bayer Leverkusen, Al Khelaifi told L'Equipe: "We're an ambitious club in all areas.

"Match after match, I feel the appetite for victory grow at PSG. I want us to win the title again and go as far as possible in the Champions League. That competition we have to win within the next four years at most."

Many observers had not expected Blanc -- who played down talk of a move for Real Madrid's Angel Di Maria -- to be anything more than a stop-gap appointment when he succeeded Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.

However, the success he has so far enjoyed has led to speculation that his two-year contract will soon be extended.

"He's under contract to 2015 and there's no major hurry to get that question sorted out now. We're talking,” Al Khelaifi said.

"To my mind, Laurent Blanc is a long-term coach. We're very happy with him. I said to him: 'We want to write the new history of PSG with you.'"

Al Khelaifi also added that he feels Javier Pastore remains part of PSG’s future.

The Argentina international, 24, has shone only intermittently since arriving at PSG from Palermo for 42 million euros in 2011, but the president said: "I'm not sure he wants to go. When a player is unhappy, it's difficult to keep hold of him. But that's not the case with Pastore.

"Pastore is both a player and man of quality. Perhaps he's going through a difficult spell, but he remains one of the world's greatest talents. I have every faith in him, even if he still has not shown all that he can do."

Pastore's future would become more uncertain, however, should PSG pursue their reported interest in Roma's Miralem Pjanic.

Pjanic has made a significant contribution to Roma's excellent first half of the Serie A season, and Al Khelaifi said: "I don't get the impression Roma would be ready to let him go this winter. The majority of big clubs want Pjanic. But I respect Roma, and I can understand they don't let their best players go in the middle of the season."
