Milan announce Ariedo Braida exit

AC Milan's recent revolution has continued with their director of sport Ariedo Braida relieved of his duties.

Ariedo Braida leaves AC Milan after 28 years.
Ariedo Braida leaves AC Milan after 28 years.

Allegri to leave in 2014

Braida has been working behind the scenes at Milan for nearly three decades, first as general manager and then more recently as director of sport, but as 2013 came to a close, so too did his official allegiance with the club.

"AC Milan thanks Ariedo Braida, who leaves the club today," read an announcement on the Rossoneri's official website. "He has been a precious employee for a very long period characterised by prestigious results which must also be associated with his important actions."

Braida makes way as part of a shake-up that has seen Barbara Berlusconi promoted to the role of general manager, alongside Adriano Galliani.

The 67-year-old has been accredited with the arrivals in Milan of the likes of Marco van Basten and Andriy Shevchenko. Thiago Silva and Kaka were also spotted and signed by Braida, who -- the club said -- "was much more than just a general manager -- he was more of a strong and secure presence for the team, who could turn to him in any moment."

His last job, before declaring to Mediaset television on Tuesday night that he is "officially unemployed," was to help attract Keisuke Honda to the club.

The Japanese forward is due to arrive in Italy on Jan. 4 and could make his Milan debut just over a week later against Sassuolo.

"I always dreamed of playing in the San Siro," the former CSKA Moscow forward said, according to Eurosport. "It's the stadium of a team I've followed since I was a child. At the age of 27, the time has come for me to play for a big club and to improve infinitely as a player."
