Ribery happy with Ballon nomination

Bayern Munich midfielder Frank Ribery is delighted just to have been nominated for the three-man Ballon d’Or shortlist.

• Who did 2013 belong to?
• Vote: Who deserves 2013 ESPN FC Award?

The Frenchman has won five trophies -- the Bundesliga, DfB Pokal, UEFA Super Cup, Champions League and Club World Cup -- in 2013 and has been placed alongside Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi in the running for the world’s best player award.

"Whether I win or not I will still be happy," Ribery told an audience at the Dubai Globe Soccer Conference in an interview with journalist Mustaf Al Agha. "For me it is a pleasure to be on the shortlist of candidates with Cristiano and Messi.

"This year I have won everything with Bayern and I think I made a big contribution. Let's see what happens on Jan. 13. The important thing is to carry on with this winning streak."

Ribery also revealed what made Bayern one of the best teams in the world. "The key thing is that we enjoy playing. We're like one big family. I think Bayern is the strongest club in the world right now," he said.

Barcelona midfielder Xavi was also present at the event and claimed that his teammate should still be regarded as the greatest player in the world.

"Ribery and Ronaldo have done great things to win the Ballon d'Or, but for me the best player in the world, and in history, is [Lionel] Messi," he said. "I am quite sure of it, but don't have a vote."
