Selection headache for United's Moyes

Manchester United have mounting injury and suspension problems as they are likely to be without three possible right-backs for Saturday’s trip to Norwich.

Payne: Rooney leads soaring comeback
• Mitten: Three Things

The versatile Phil Jones missed Boxing Day’s 3-2 win at Hull after being ruled out for a fortnight with a knee injury.

Then Rafael da Silva limped off at the KC Stadium with a groin problem before winger Antonio Valencia, who was switched to right-back when the Brazilian was substituted, was sent off in the last minute.

The Ecuadorian will serve a one-match ban at a time when United are already without another right winger, with Nani absent because of a hamstring injury.

Manager David Moyes may have to disrupt his centre-back partnership of Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling to move the latter to the right of the back four.

Fabio da Silva provides another option but the Brazilian has only started one game in Moyes’ reign while Tom Cleverley finished the Hull game at right-back after Valencia had been dismissed and United had made all three substitutions.

However, Moyes is likely to have more options in the centre of midfield after Michael Carrick made his comeback as a substitute at the KC Stadium.

The 32-year-old had been out for seven weeks with a knee injury while United are waiting to see if Robin van Persie, who has had a thigh injury, will be ready to return.
