There is no commodity in football more valuable than a world-class striker. The ability that a select few individuals have to create and finish scoring chances is ultimately what separates the great teams from the good ones, and nowhere is this more evident than the current landscape of the Premier League.
There are many talented strikers throughout England’s top division, but five in particular stand out from the rest. These strikers have all proved themselves as goal scorers, while finding auxiliary methods to help their teams. Their form is also absolutely essential for their teams to compete for trophies, and as the season moves along it will be critical for these teams to continue finding ways to put these players in positions to succeed.
With that said, here is my ranking of top five strikers in the Premier League as we roll into the middle of the 2013-14 season, followed by a few honorable mentions.
Note that this ranking of “strikers” is not a list of players who solely play target striker roles, but rather encompasses players who this season have displayed top attacking prowess and goal-scoring ability, irrespective of position classification.
1. Luis Suarez, Liverpool (19 goals)
