Manchester United have confirmed that Phil Jones is expected to be out of action for "a couple of weeks" with a knee injury.

Phil Jones could be called into action in midfield.

Jones -- who can be utilised both in defence and midfield for the Premier League champions -- was not named in the matchday squad for United's clash at Hull City on Boxing Day.

The club confirmed shortly before kick-off at the KC Stadium that the 21-year-old would miss the rest of United's Christmas and New Year fixtures.

Jones is set to miss the trip to Norwich City on Dec. 28, the visit of Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford on New Year's Day and back-to-back home games against Swansea City in the FA Cup and Premier League.

The former Blackburn player could be fit in time for the trip to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Jan 19.
