Keshi: Iheanacho heading to England

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi says highly rated teenager Kelechi Iheanacho is on the brink of sealing a move to an English club, believed to be Manchester City.

Nigeria starlet Kelechi Iheanacho has caught the attention of some of Europe's biggest clubs.

Iheanacho, 17, was named MVP at the recent Under-17 World Cup after scoring six goals to help Nigeria lift the trophy -- leading to a flurry of interest from Europe.

And it now appears that the youngster, who is currently training with Nigeria’s senior squad ahead of January’s African Nations Championship -- a tournament predominantly for African-based players -- has opted to move to England.

"Initially a young man came declaring that he was the agent of Iheanacho, but I declined to deal with him until I heard from the family because the boy is still a minor," Keshi told the Nigerian Guardian.

"It was soon after my rejection that I got a call from his father who told me that they have got a travelling visa to the United Kingdom and that I should oblige him with his son's release.

"I did and told the young man to go and do the nation proud at whichever club he finally chooses to settle down with. We have to be cautious not to push the players too hard so that nobody will break down."

Iheanacho’s father James told MTNFootball.com last month that City had won the race for the teenager’s signature, saying: "We prayed and, after due consultations with family members, we came up with Manchester City, believing he has a future there.”
