Lippi warns against mistakes

Guangzhou Evergrande manager Marcello Lippi has warned his side will “pay a very high price” if they make any mistakes against Bayern Munich in the FIFA Club World Cup on Tuesday.

• Moonda: More to shout for than just their team
• Lomas: 'The other Bale' out to make his mark

The Chinese champions take on the might of the defending European champions for a place in the final against either Raja Casablanca or Copa Libertadores champions Atletico Mineiro.

And despite admitting the chance to face the German juggernauts was ‘exciting’, Lippi said Guangzhou’s time in the competition would soon be over if his side committed the same amount of mistakes as they did in the quarter-finals against Mexican side Monterrey.

"Nobody must make a mistake like the ones we made last time," he said. "If we make those mistakes (against Bayern) we will pay a very high price.

"Bayern are now the best team in the world and this makes it very exciting. We never thought we would have a chance of playing a game of this level.

"It's a chance to measure ourselves, to really see how far we have come. We will try to find a way of making sure the better team doesn't win so easily."

"It's nice to have enthusiasm but we also have to be realistic, they are much stronger than us and we have to play with humility.

"We must try to neutralise their numerous weapons and try to use ours.”

And, Lippi confirmed he may need to employ the famous Italian defensive system catenaccio to nullify the attacking weapons of Bayern.

"I think the word catenaccio has become a little misrepresented," Lippi said.

"But, if by catenaccio you mean playing a good defensive game against strong opponents, then it's necessary. We can't just go rushing on to the attack."
