Ter Stegen transfer to Barcelona 50-50

Borussia Moenchengladbach keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is reportedly edging closer to a move to Spanish giants Barcelona, but the German club claim the transfer is still 50-50.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen is on Barcelona's radar as they seek a replacement for Victor Valdes.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen is wanted in Spain.

Throughout 2013, the 21-year-old ter Stegen has been linked with a switch to Barcelona, where he could replace the outgoing Victor Valdes between the posts at the Camp Nou. The goalkeeper is contracted to resurgent Gladbach until 2015 but claimed he would make a decision on his future before the end of the year.

In November, Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed that ter Stegen "is one of the few candidates" to replace Valdes and, with Gladbach’s last home game of the year against VfL Wolfsburg next Sunday, time is slowly running out.

"We have agreed to wait until the final two games. We have played one now," Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl told Der Westen after the club’s goalless draw at Mainz on Saturday. "There comes a time when all the thinking about what’s next needs to be over and this leads to a decision. Hopefully the right one.

"It’s a 50-50 chance. We talked to him a lot and in the course of time we have also given thought to it. I have hope."

When quizzed about his future in a post-match interview at the weekend, ter Stegen walked away without any comment.

Meanwhile, German football mag kicker reports that Gladbach have already set their sights on Freiburg keeper Oliver Baumann, 23, as a potential replacement. The paper also links Basel’s Yann Sommer with a move to the club.
