Bayern include Green in CWC squad

Julian Green has been included in Bayern Munich’s squad for the Club World Cup as Arjen Robben’s replacement.

Julian Green is yet to decide whether to play for USA or Germany at international level.

Florida-born Green, 18, made his debut for Bayern as a substitute in the 3-1 Champions League victory against CSKA Moscow on Nov. 27.

And after Netherlands international Robben suffered a knee injury during the DFB Pokal win against Augsburg, the Germany under-19 winger has been called upon for the trip to Morocco.

Bayern will play their first ever game at a Club World Cup on Dec. 17 in Agadir, where they will either take on the Asian champions Guangzhou Evergrande FC or African champions Al Ahly.

Winners of two Intercontinental titles in 1976 and 2001, Bayern want to crown their historic year, which has already seen them lift the Bundesliga, the German cup, the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.

“In Morocco, we want to win the thing that is still missing in 2013,” the club’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told kicker.

Midfielder Thomas Mueller added: “We want the title, that’s the reason we go there.”

Coach Pep Guardiola has twice won the Club World Cup during his Barcelona reign. In 2009, Barcelona beat the Argentinian side Club Estudiantes 2-1 after extra time, with Lionel Messi scoring an 110th minute winner.

In 2011, Guardiola guided Barca to a 4-0 victory against Neymar’s Santos. Bayern midfielder Thiago Alcantara started the game and was substituted 11 minutes from time.
