Perez pushing for Di Maria exit - agent
Angel Di Maria’s agent has suggested that a “presidential issue” is behind his client’s proposed move from Real Madrid to Monaco in the January transfer window.
Di Maria had apparently settled down to work hard and fight for his place -- even after Gareth Bale’s summer arrival -- but speculation emerged last weekend that he was now unhappy at the Bernabeu and wanted to join the big spending Ligue 1 side to ensure regular football ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
The winger’s Argentine agent Eugenio Lopez [renowned 'super-agent' Jorge Mendes handles his European rights] suggested to Radio La Red in Argentina that Florentino Perez held the key to this apparent change of heart.
“[Di Maria] has a contract which runs until 2018,” Lopez said. “Many clubs want him. There is a presidential issue there. But I do not want to talk about it.”
While Mendes’ connections would appear to put Monaco in pole position to sign the 25 year old, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been said to be interested.
It had been thought that Di Maria was set to leave Madrid last summer due to Bale’s 100 million euro arrival, but he regularly spoke about how keen he was to stay and fight for his place, and it was Mesut Ozil who was instead sold to Arsenal for 50 million euros just before the window shut.
There was a suggestion of unhappiness however when Di Maria scored against Galatasaray in the Champions League in late November, with his wife putting a message on her Instagram account that evening saying “And you want to sell him? What a pity...”
One suggestion is that Perez needs to sell to raise money, with his club reportedly 541 million euros in debt. Madrid have also long been linked with a move for Radamel Falcao, who is persistently rumoured not to have settled at Monaco since his 60 million euro summer arrival.
