Jerome Boateng signs new contract

Germany centre-back Jerome Boateng has extended his contract at Bayern Munich until 2018.

Jerome Boateng joined Bayern from Manchester City in 2011.

Schaaf: Bayern win group

Boateng, who signed from Manchester City in 2011, has made 66 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern and established himself in the German national team.

The 25-year-old, who had previously been contracted to the European champions until 2015, told the club’s official website: “I am delighted. FC Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in world football -- to play here is not only fun but also an honour. I want to achieve a lot with this team in the years to come.

"They bought me at a time when I was injured.  I felt confidence, even when things were not going so well."

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added: “Jerome has developed brilliantly. He is among the most important players at FC Bayern. That’s why it was a logical step to try for a contract extension. We’ve reached that today. We are all pleased.”

Bayern are continuing to build their future around the players that won the Champions League last season, with full-back David Alaba signing a new contract until 2018 earlier this month.

Toni Kroos and Arjen Robben are now the only members of the squad whose deals expire in 2015 and, while there has been little news on an extension for the former, there have been suggestions that the Netherlands winger will agree a new deal soon.
