Klopp calm ahead of Marseille trip

Juergen Klopp has insisted his Borussia Dortmund side will play with the right attitude when they take on Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

• Buzcko: Final hurdle for Dortmund before knockout rounds

Dortmund need to win at Marseille to secure their passage into the knockout stages or otherwise drop down to the Europa League.

Should last year’s Champions League finalists fail to win in France, they will need to rely on Arsenal ensuring Napoli do not better Dortmund’s result.

Neven Subotic, Mats Hummels, Marcel Schmelzer, Sven Bender and Ilkay Gundogan are all sidelined with injuries, while centre-back Manuel Friedrich is ineligible to play in Champions League.

“It is no situation where the sun is shining and everything runs world class,” Dortmund coach Klopp told the news conference in Marseille. “[But] we want to make it to the knockout stages. And you will see it in us. You will win no pity points in Marseille.”

Klopp has still not given up hope of having Nuri Sahin available, after he partially tore a ligament in his right ankle in the 1-0 defeat to Leverkusen at the weekend.

“The injury is not the problem, but time is the problem,” Klopp said. Sahin, who joined the rest of the squad for the final training session on Tuesday, was confident, telling reporters that he felt fine.

At the weekend, Marseille sacked their coach Elie Baup and sporting director Jose Anigo took charge of the team. “It is always better to play against a team directly before they sack their coach than to play them after that,” Klopp said.

Asked about the club's possible Champions League failure, Dortmund CEO Aki Watzke told reporters on Tuesday: “We had three unbelievable years. We went from one party to the next party. We knew it would not last for 20 years. But I am confident."
