Yohan Cabaye drops PSG hint

Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has fuelled speculation he may return to France in January by telling beIN SPORT: "Who wouldn't want to join Paris Saint-Germain?"

Cabaye, 27, has been linked to the French champions since last summer when PSG's then-sporting director Leonardo contacted Newcastle with a view to signing the France international.

After angering Magpies fans by attempting to force through a summer move to Arsenal, Cabaye has managed to cement his popularity with supporters once again following his goal in the club's 1-0 win over Manchester United on Saturday.

However, speaking to beIN SPORT just 24 hours later, the midfielder suggested he may not be a part of Alan Pardew's squad for much longer.

"As far as I know, there has been no contact with Paris Saint-Germain. Who wouldn't want to join PSG today?" the former Lille man, who is under contract at St James' Park until 2016, said. "Paris make other teams afraid in Europe, more so than last season. I really hope they win the Champions League."

Bought from Lille for five million euros, Cabaye's current market value, estimated at 15-20 million euros, would represent little problem for PSG’s wealthy Qatari owners, who are keen to add more of a French identity to their cosmopolitan squad.

One of the cornerstones of the French national team during Laurent Blanc’s reign, Cabaye, who has the added advantage of being eligible to play in the Champions League, has a long-standing admirer in the shape of the current PSG boss.

"I'm the coach of a big club with a lot of ambition, so all good players interest us," Blanc said on Saturday when asked about PSG's interest in Cabaye.

PSG would have been negotiating with Aston Villa rather than Newcastle had Cabaye's initial hopes for a move to England come to fruition in the summer of 2011.

He told beIN SPORT he had planned on moving to Villa Park "for Gerard Houllier" before the former Liverpool and France boss’ health problems forced him to step down, with Cabaye then opting for Newcastle instead.

"Since my arrival, I've given everything for the club," Cabaye said. "I don't regret my choice."
