Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender had to be substituted during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen, and coach Juergen Klopp said afterwards: “We lost 1-0, but that’s actually the least of our problems today.”
The club’s official website reported: “Nuri Sahin suffered a partial ligament tear in his right ankle and Sven Bender a strained tendon in his right ankle as well as a bleeding into the tendon sheaths.”
Sahin is described as having a “slight chance” of featuring in the game at Marseille, which Dortmund must win to be certain of reaching the knockout stage, but Bender is certain to miss the game.
Dortmund are already without Ilkay Gundogan, Mats Hummels, Neven Subotic and Marcel Schmelzer for Wednesday’s match due to injury, while Manuel Friedrich is ineligible.
