Roma keep pace with Juventus

Roma beat Fiorentina 2-1 at home in the early game on Sunday with goals from Maicon and Mattia Destro to keep within three points of Juventus at the top of the Serie A table.

The unbeaten hosts ended a run of four straight draws which had threatened to undermine their title hopes with a victory which moved them three points behind Serie A leaders Juventus. Maicon put the capital club ahead in the seventh minute following fine skill from Gervinho, but Juan Vargas levelled before half-time.

But Roma got the winner in the 67th minute. Gervinho was again involved, the former Arsenal man's corner picking out Mattia Destro to score at the far post. Roma had Miralem Pjanic sent off in the 88th minute, but it did not prove costly.

Inter Milan missed the chance to close to within two points of third-placed Napoli after being held to a 3-3 home draw in a thriller with Parma.

Walter Mazzarri's side twice trailed in the first half but a brace from Rodrigo Palacio either side of the break saw them draw level and then a 56th-minute strike from Fredy Guarin put the hosts ahead.

However, that lead only lasted three minutes before Parma striker Nicola Sansone made it 3-3 with his second of the match and, despite both sides having further chances in the final half-hour, the points were shared.

Lazio's winless run on the road this season continued as they fell 1-0 at Torino.

Kamil Glik's first-half strike was all that separated the two teams in Turin although Lazio came close to an equaliser with a couple of missed chances.

The outcome allowed Torino to continue their improved form, which has seen them lose just two of their last nine league games, and leapfrog Lazio in the table.

Marco Sau struck twice inside the final 13 minutes as Cagliari battled back from a goal down to see off 10-man Genoa 2-1.

Alberto Gilardino fired the visitors in front inside 20 minutes but Genoa suffered a setback two minutes before the break when Thomas Manfredini was dismissed for a second caution.

The visitors weathered the Cagliari storm for much of the second half before finally succumbing when Sau opened his account in the 77th minute, before the Italy international bagged the winner in the final minute.

Sampdoria claimed their first win in six games as goals by Eder and Manolo Gabbiadini secured a 2-0 win over Catania.

Samp had not won since Oct. 26 and their record of just two points from five games had seen them sit precariously close to the relegation zone. For Catania, it was their third successive defeat and keeps them rooted firmly to the bottom of the table.

Cyril Thereau scored the only goal of the game as Chievo edged Sassuolo 1-0 to record their third successive Serie A victory.

The French forward struck in the 55th minute to hand the visitors all three points and inflict Sassuolo's first defeat since Oct. 30.

Hellas Verona halted a run of four successive defeats with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory against Atalanta.

The hosts trailed 1-0 with eight minutes remaining after German Denis had put the visitors ahead in the first half.

However, substitute Juan Gomez equalised in the 82nd minute before Jorginho Frello scored the winner from the penalty spot five minutes later after Riccardo Cazzola had fouled substitute Daniele Cacia in the area. Cazzola was shown a straight red for his late challenge as Atalanta ended the game down to 10 men.
