Bayern smash seven past Bremen

Bayern Munich continued their incredible form as Franck Ribery scored two in a 7-0 rout of Werder Bremen.

Bayern Munich celebrate after Franck Ribery scored their third of the game.

The German champions are now 40 games unbeaten and eased to a 3-0 lead at half-time before finishing the job with four more in the second.

Assani Lukimya gave Bayern a hand by scoring an own goal in the 21st minute, but Ballon d'Or candidate Ribery soon took charge of the match to inspire Bayern to a convincing victory.

Daniel van Buyten made it two in the 27th minute before the Frenchman got his name on the scoresheet to give Bayern their biggest half-time advantage of the season so far. He then teed up Mario Mandzukic to make it four before Thomas Muller put Bayern 5-0 ahead.

Ribery added a sixth before Mario Gotze completed the rout to both compound Bremen's misery and help assert Bayern's authority on the Bundesliga once again.

Bayer Leverkusen reduced the arrears on Bayern Munich to four points again with a 1-0 win at Borussia Dortmund which leaves the Westphalians now 10 points adrift of the Bundesliga leaders.

Heung-Min Son scored the only goal of the game after 18 minutes as Leverkusen cemented second place in the table, six points clear of their third-placed opponents.

Hoffenheim left Eintracht Frankfurt on the brink of the Bundesliga's bottom three by winning 2-1 at the Waldstadion.

Sven Schipplock and Roberto Firmino scored the goals for Markus Gisdol's men as they opened up a six-point advantage over their opponents, for whom Joselu was on target. All the goals arrived in the second half after a tense opening 45 minutes, and it was the visitors who held the upper hand in Hessen.

Borussia Monchengladbach made it six wins in a row as they saw off fifth-placed Schalke 2-1 at the Borussia Park Stadion.

Jefferson Farfan put Schalke in front from the penalty spot, but Raffael levelled with a fine long-distance effort before Max Kruse snatched victory with a spot-kick of his own.

Schalke played the second half with only 10 men after Benedikt Howedes was shown a red card, and they failed to find an equaliser as the pressure mounts on coach Jens Keller, whose side now have a decisive Champions League fixture with Basle to come.

Stuttgart returned to winning ways in style with a 4-2 win over Hannover which took them above their opponents and up to 10th place.

Martin Harnik gave the hosts the lead early on, but two quick goals from Artur Sobiech and Salif Sane turned the game in Hannover's favour.

Vedad Ibisevic brought Stuttgart level before the break and further goals from Ibrahim Traore and Konstantin Rausch earned the Swabians all three points.

Raul Bobadilla's first goal of the season earned Augsburg all three points in northern Germany as they moved clear of the Bundesliga relegation zone and left Hamburg in trouble with a 1-0 win.

The Argentinian forward marked his first start for the Bavarians with the only goal of the game to take Markus Weinzierl's men onto 20 points for the season, halfway towards their overall goal for the whole campaign with two games still to play before the midway stage.

Bobadilla was a threat throughout as Hamburg struggled to match their own fans' expectations once again.
