Pellegrini: Dzeko will not be sold

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has ruled out selling striker Edin Dzeko in the January transfer window.

Edin Dzeko still has a future at Manchester City according to manager Manuel Pellegrini.

• Mooney: Value of Lescott

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has been consigned to the substitutes’ bench in recent weeks as fellow forwards Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero form a successful partnership.

But despite only making nine starting appearances this season, the 27-year-old has chipped in with seven goals in all competitions and Pellegrini is loath to lose a player with such an impact off the bench.

“No, that is not the case [that Dzeko could be sold],” Pellegrini told The Telegraph.

“I put my trust in him before the season and I have just as much trust in him now. It is very important for this club to have a good squad because we have a lot of games to play from now until April and, if we want to win trophies, we need important players.

“Maybe at the moment he is not playing as much as he would like, but he remains an important part of the squad.”
