I have board support: Reds' A-League coach

Adelaide United coach Josep Gombau says he received fresh support from the A-League's club board after seeking a midweek meeting with the powerbrokers.

Gombau says he asked to meet the board to explain why the Reds languish in eighth spot on the ladder with just one win this season.

After a season-opening victory, Adelaide have lost four games and drawn two but the Spaniard says he's not feeling any heat from club hierarchy.

"It was a meeting I want to do and I asked for," Gombau told reporters in Adelaide on Saturday.

"And I explained what we are doing. We are very clear what we want and I don't feel pressure for the results because it is something we are building.

"This first season is to build the project - this is what we will do.

"I don't have any pressure in myself ... I don't see TV; I don't read newspapers; I do my job.

"I am very clear in what I want ... everyone knows this first season will be difficult."

Gombau said he would not be swayed from demanding a passing-based, possession game for the Reds, who travel to play winless Melbourne Heart on Sunday.

"Everybody is supporting me," he said.

"We are going this way. This is the way the club takes, to build this style.

"The results will come ... we are close. We are doing a lot of good things, just some mistakes that cost us goals and, when we rearrange this, we will be successful."

Adelaide's chief executive Glenn Elliott said the Reds' results were discussed at the meeting with Gombau.

"But we all agreed that winning comes as a consequence of structures and styles of play," Elliott said.

"Josep was contracted for an initial two years and he indicated he is very happy and settled in Adelaide and with the way the team was progressing.

"He indicated he would be happy to stay longer. But there were no formal discussions about any form of specific contract extension.

"Right now, Josep is here for two years. He is happy with the club's development - we are happy with him - and we will continue along that path."
