Vincent Kompany returns to fitness

How Will They Line Up visits The City of Manchester Stadium for City's must-win clash against another City. Swansea. Ian is in a hedge looking for his Billy Idol LPs. Plus, Anthony talks to Dean Saunders.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is finally fit again after eight weeks on the sidelines with a thigh injury.

Vincent Kompany sustained the injury in the season opener against Newcastle.
Vincent Kompany picked up the injury on Oct. 5.

Curtis: A knockout time

The Belgium international, who was injured playing against Everton on Oct. 5, will sit out Sunday’s home game against Swansea.

However, City manager Manuel Pellegini suggested the defender, who is short of first-team football after the lengthy lay-off, could make his comeback against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday.

“Vincent Kompany is fit. Maybe he is not ready to play next Sunday but next week I think he will be without any problems,” Pellegrini said.

Midfielder David Silva and striker Stevan Jovetic are set to sit out City’s next three matches with calf injuries, but should be available again for the club’s final Champions League group game on Dec. 10.

Pellegrini said: “I think they will be fit when we play against Bayern Munich.”

However, Matija Nastasic’s calf problem is set to keep him out for a further three weeks. The centre-back came off at half-time in Sunday’s 6-0 win over Tottenham.

“I think three weeks [more],” Pellegrini, who welcomes back midfielder Jack Rodwell, said.

The City boss went on to praise goalkeeper Joe Hart for his performance in Wednesday’s 4-2 Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen.

The England international had been on the bench for the previous five games after being dropped but, with Costel Pantilimon rested, he was recalled to the starting XI.

Pellegrini said: “I think Joe Hart played very, very well the other day. He had a good performance. We trust a lot in him and we will see who will start on Sunday.”

However, Pantilimon is likely to return in goal against a Swansea side who look set to be without both Michu and Wilfried Bony.

City have scored 13 times in their last two Premier League games, beating Norwich 7-0 and Tottenham 6-0, but Pellegrini feels it is unlikely they will carry on scoring the same number of goals.

He said: “For me the most important thing is to win the next match. If we can win 1-0, perfect. If we can score eight goals, also perfect. We are going to try always to be an attacking team but also a balanced team.

“I think the way we played against Tottenham is the way this team must play, especially the second half. We are not always going to score seven goals. If we play, not only scoring, but pressing with speed, it is the team I want to see every Sunday.”
