Alderweireld hopes for De Bruyne deal

Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld says he hopes Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne can join him at the Estadio Vicente Calderon during the winter transfer window.

De Bruyne, 22, spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen, and has not settled well under Jose Mourinho this season, with the Blues boss questioning his attitude earlier in the campaign and the Belgium international having few opportunities since.

AS claims that De Bruyne -- who has been linked with Schalke -- was in Madrid this week to meet with Atletico official Andrea Berta and discuss a possible loan move that would include an option to buy in the summer.

With Los Colchoneros known to be looking to add midfield creativity in January, and Diego Ribas’ long-mooted return apparently stalled, the former Ajax centre-half talked up his fellow compatriot’s ability.

“It would be fantastic if he arrived in the January transfer window,” Alderweireld said. “He really knows how to play in the centre of the field, he has talent.”

AS believes that Atletico, who already have Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on loan from Chelsea, face competition from Bayer Leverkusen for the player.
