Rummenigge: Bayern 'mole' to be sold

They beat their nearest rivals 3-0 in their own back yard on Saturday, but there was no respite for Bayern Munich as thet met for training on Sunday.

The Bayern Munich ‘mole’ could be sold once tracked down, CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said as Bild continues to mock the club over the leak.

Schaaf: All the stars

Bild's headline read: 'Bayern threatens to put mole on sale. Read all about how Pep could trace him!'
Bild has continued to mock the club over the leak.

Ahead of Bayern’s game at Borussia Dortmund last weekend, the German newspaper revealed Pep Guardiola’s tactics -- information that turned out to be true.

During a team meeting before the Dortmund clash, Guardiola reportedly warned his players that he will trace the ‘mole’, saying that “heads will roll” once the perpetrator has been found.

The story was revealed by Bild on Sunday, and confirmed by Rummenigge on a football talk show later that day.

On Tuesday, Bayern president Uli Hoeness told reporters that “the players are dying of laughter because of your headlines”, however, the likes of Philipp Lahm and Arjen Robben appear to be concerned by the situation.

On Wednesday, with Bayern in Russia for their Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow, Bild ran a story with the headline: “Bayern threatens to put mole on sale. Read all about how Pep could trace him.”

While the article contained no background information on how Guardiola plans to hunt down the ‘mole’, the newspaper claimed that Rummenigge had said the club might sell him like they had done in the past. He recalled the case of Jupp Kappelmann in 1979, who was sold after leaking information.

“Uli Hoeness had to sell him, because the team wanted it that way,” Rummenigge said.

In an interview with Munich-based newspaper tz, Guardiola’s biographer, Guillem Balague, played down the saga. Balague explained Guardiola’s guideline is that what are team affairs should stay in-house.

“Everything else would be treason towards the team. He isn't really bothered that the Dortmund tactics were made public. It is about someone in the dressing room who disregards him,” Balague said.

“For Guardiola, everything stands and falls with the group, that’s the essence of his philosophy. But I don’t think he will take special trouble to trace that person. He has addressed it and everyone should draw their own conclusions from it. If Pep does not want something then it is to be a policeman.”
