Giggs confident United can win title

Ryan Giggs believes Manchester United remain in the title race and have a “great chance” of retaining their crown if they are close to the league leaders at the beginning of 2014.

Ryan Giggs is hoping to claim a 14th league title this season.

United sit in sixth place, seven points behind Arsenal, after a stuttering start to the campaign, but they have now gone 10 games unbeaten in all competitions.

And Giggs, whose 13 league titles make him the most decorated player in the history of English domestic football, feels he could add a 14th this season.

He told The Times: “It has been a crazy season so far. We’ve been in so many title races and from experience we know we’ve just got to hang in there while we’re not at our brilliant best.

“As long as we’re there or thereabouts in January and we get a run together, history shows that the team who does that will have a great chance of winning the league.”

Giggs turns 40 on Friday and reached 1,000 appearances for club and country in March’s Champions League game against Real Madrid.

And the winger, who played his 952nd United game in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Cardiff, would love to reach that landmark for the Red Devils as well.

He added: “I’m not going to lie, if I did that, then obviously I would be buzzing and it would be brilliant. If I get there, great. If I don’t, well, I’m not going to complain.”
