Yaya Toure wants new City record

Yaya Toure is hopeful that Manchester City can set a new Premier League goalscoring record after their six-goal demolition of Tottenham.

Mooney: Fernandinho -- City's buy of the summer

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have struck 34 times in 12 league games this season, putting them on course to finish the campaign with 108 goals.

The Premier League record is 103, set by Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea team in 2010, when they became the first top-flight side to score a century of goals since Tottenham in the 1962-63 season.

And asked if City can set a new record best, Toure said: “I hope so. We have the strikers, we have fantastic players. The two guys [Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo] up front are unbelievable.”

The Ivory Coast international believes Spurs’ previously excellent defensive record -- Andre Villas-Boas’ men had only conceded one away goal on the road before visiting the Etihad Stadium -- shows the scale of City’s achievement on Sunday.

He added: “To beat Tottenham 6-0 is unbelievable. Tottenham are one of the teams in the Premier League who have conceded fewer goals away than at home. We knew Tottenham are a serious contender in the Premier League this year. They have a fantastic team. We played very well.”

City have scored 13 goals in their last two home league games, but in between the 7-0 win over Norwich and the 6-0 victory against Tottenham, they lost 1-0 at Sunderland.

And Toure admits City’s away form is frustrating, saying: “Football is so strange. We are trying to work very hard because our problem now is away. It is very important to start winning away from home.

“It is not just the big teams who are the problem. It is the normal teams. It is always difficult away. We know if we are to win the title again we have to win our away games. The manager is working on that and trying to find the right balance.”
