Pellegrini: Aguero among world's best

Manuel Pellegrini bracketed Sergio Aguero alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo among the top three players in the world after the striker inspired Manchester City to a 6-0 win over Tottenham.

• Mooney: Fernandinho show
• Curtis: City ram home points
• AVB bemoans 'woeful performance'
• Fitch: Spurs lamentable at Etihad

Aguero scored twice to take his tally to 14 goals in his last 11 City games and become the Premier League’s top scorer this season.

The Argentina international, who joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2011, has scored three braces in his last four games at the Etihad Stadium.

And manager Pellegrini said: “I think Kun [Aguero], after Messi and Ronaldo, is [in] the top three players in the world.”

Aguero’s strike partner Alvaro Negredo was also on target and Pellegrini, who signed the Spaniard from Sevilla in the summer, believes his style of play makes him ideally suited to life in England.

Sergio Aguero scored Man City's third goal against Spurs
Sergio Aguero has been in sparkling form for Manchester City this season.

He added: “He is the perfect player for the Premier League. I think he is a very important player and very happy here in England. The way the team plays is very comfortable for him and it is easier [to play alongside] beside Kun Aguero.”

Jesus Navas also scored twice while Tottenham midfielder Sandro scored an own goal and Pellegrini admitted he was surprised by the margin of the victory but pleased how prolific his side have been at the Etihad Stadium.

He added: “It is not normal to win by six goals against a strong team like Tottenham but I think we played really well. This team have played six games at home and scored 26 goals so we have [averaged] more than four goals a game.”

Captain Vincent Kompany, who has not played since injuring a thigh against Everton on Oct. 5, is due back in training on Monday but Pellegrini said he is not sure if the defender will be fit to face Swansea on Sunday.
