Martino defends Barca's style of play

Barcelona boss Gerardo Martino has defended his club’s style of play after the La Liga leaders cruised to a 4-0 win over Granada.

Cesc Fabregas jumps for joy after slotting home Barcelona's second successful penalty against Granada.

• Ledwith: Sluggish Barca win

The defending Spanish champions continued on their undefeated streak as goals to Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, Alexis Sanchez and Pedro gave the Catalan club a 13th win in the league.

However, the club’s stunning start to the season has been noted for the move away from the famous tiki-taka style of play and Martino admitted the new, direct form of football may not please all of the club’s fans.

"We know that in addition to winning, which is most important, we are committed to the spectacle and how we set up," the 50-year-old told reporters after the match.

"I have seen a good Barcelona, but perhaps how I look at beautiful football is different to you. I believe that you can have 20 pretty touches [to score] or you can have three.

"Those missing are very strong, but those who played are very good too. At least half trained with us during the week, so there was no reason not to play a good game.

"We must solve our problems, not complain. With this squad, I will never make excuses."

The four-goal rout gave Martino the chance to run the rule over his squad, but it was a familiar figure that earned special praise from the Argentine coach.

"Neymar played a strong game despite not scoring. We also have Cesc, Alexis and Sergi Roberto [for the attacking role],” Martino said.

"It's important to have alternatives. It's good to have players who are specialists in their positions, yet adapt to others. Iniesta was the best out there tonight and when you see him, it's clear he can do anything."
