Carrick signs United contract extension

Michael Carrick has signed a 12-month contract extension to keep him at Manchester United until 2015.

Michael Carrick has completed 674 passes in the Premier League this term.
Carrick joined United from Tottenham for 18.6 million pounds in 2006.

Payne: Carrick injury a blow

The midfielder's previous deal was set to expire next summer and manager David Moyes said he was "delighted" the midfielder has agreed to stay and called him "an exceptional man."

Carrick joined United from Tottenham in 2006 and his new deal includes an option for a further year, meaning he could remain at Old Trafford until 2016.

Manager Moyes told United's official website: "I am delighted Michael has extended his contract. During my short time at the club it hasn't been hard to notice that Michael is a great reader of the game and has excellent passing ability. He is an exceptional man and a true professional and it's great that he has committed himself to the club."

Carrick added: "It is great to extend my contract at this great club. I am really enjoying my football.  The club has gone through a few changes and working under David Moyes has been fantastic. I have won many trophies in my years playing here and I am looking forward to achieving more in the future."

The 32-year-old has won five Premier League titles along with the Champions League and the League Cup in his seven years at United, scoring 21 goals in 334 appearances for the club.

While he is currently sidelined by an Achilles injury, he has been an automatic choice when available for Moyes and started 13 of United's first 15 games this season.
