Bayern recently revealed plans to open an office in New York to position themselves at the centre of the ever-growing United States soccer market.
“It’s true, I’ve been there and looked at the premises,” Joerg Wacker, the Bayern executive with responsibility for internationalisation and strategy, told Abendzeitung in early November.
“We want to build a network and increase our efforts to position the brand FC Bayern in the U.S.”
According to Abendzeitung, Bayern are to play the MLS All-Stars in Portland in the summer of 2014, “as part of their attack on the U.S. market.”
No date for the fixture has yet been set, but the Bundesliga club plan to field their strongest side in the preseason friendly.
With the 2014 World Cup final to be played on July 13 and the holidays for Bayern’s international players set to follow soon after, it is likely that the game will be played sometime in mid-August.
The European champions last played in the U.S. in 2004, when they came up against Manchester United in Chicago as part of the Champions World Series.
