Juventus to step up Andrea Pirlo talks

There has been some renewed urgency about Juventus' bid to extend the contract of Andrea Pirlo after the Italy international reaffirmed his desire to carry on playing beyond the end of the season “at Juventus or another club.”

Andrea Pirlo's Juventus contract expires at the end of the season.

Rzouki: Who are Juve tracking?

Pirlo, 34, has little over six months left to run on his current deal with the Serie A champions and he has delayed talks over an extension until next spring, inevitably fuelling speculation he would like to listen to offers from elsewhere.

And the midfielder intensified such talk further on Friday night after Italy's 1-1 draw with Germany by saying he would be open to anything.

"It's got nothing to do with figures and I've never demanded a guaranteed place in the team either," Pirlo said. "All I've said is that I want to carry on playing because I'm enjoying it and I feel good. I still want to play regularly and at a certain level.

"If it's at Juventus or another club, we'll see. Certainly I'm not ruling anything out. I don't yet know how talks over my contract will go. We've got the whole season still to come and there's still time to talk about it."

With those words in mind, Juve are set to show their faith in the Ballon d'Or nominee by offering him a substantial two-year contract, rather than the one-year deal usually offered to players of his age.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Bianconeri are not keen on waiting for much longer with potential suitors already believed to be lining up to lure Pirlo away.
