Sturridge, Walker fit for Germany

England striker Daniel Sturridge is confident he will be fit to face Germany on Tuesday, while right-back Kyle Walker has confirmed he will also return.

Schuerrle unsure over Rooney

Sturridge, 24, has been struggling with a thigh problem that kept him out of Friday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Chile but the Liverpool striker feels he is ready to play.

“I've had a lot of treatment last few days, I've been working hard to make sure I'm okay,” he told a news conference on Sunday afternoon. “I'm going to go out on the training field today and I'm raring to go for the game.

“It's important for me to be fit and to play for England. It's an opportunity that I'm relishing. If can remain fit, that's what's important for me, to be putting on the England shirt and playing.

“It's not a serious injury so I'm hopeful that it doesn't continue to linger on. I've been playing with it for the past couple of games and it's been hindering my performance.

"I had a scan and the scan showed it was similar to what it was before but it is not a problem for me. I am raring to go for the game. I am delighted that the pain is not as bad and I am looking forward to it.

"It is a great prospect. We are playing against a country that plays great football and has got world class players. It will be a great occasion."

Meanwhile, Tottenham defender Walker told the Football Association's website on Sunday evening: "I'm feeling fine and ready for selection on Tuesday."

Walker, who will earn his 10th cap if he plays against the Germans, says the whole squad is desperate to bounce back from the defeat against Chile.

"The mood here is always great," he added. "We have some fantastic characters as well as players in the team, so it's always going to be buzzing.

"The defeat was a little bit of a downer, but luckily we've got Tuesday to put things right and hopefully we do. It's going to be a very difficult game. As a team we learned a lot on Friday against Chile, where they play the passing football, but I think it's going to be a little bit different to how [Germany] play.

"They have quality right throughout the team, but let's not underestimate us, we're a fantastic team, we've got quality throughout and I think it will be a fantastic game."

Sturridge is desperate to make the World Cup after missing out on a trip to Rio last summer because of an injury.

"That was a devastating time for me," Sturridge said. "I had to go on holiday to Jamaica with my crutches and (a protective) boot.

"It wasn't nice because it was really hot. I was there, just hobbling around. I haven't been to Brazil. I have heard it's good. Hopefully I will be on the plane next summer."

Part of the reason behind Sturridge's success at Liverpool is his partnership with Luis Suarez.Sturridge feels he and Suarez have an "almost telepathic" understanding of each other and the hope within in the England camp is that he and Rooney can build up the same kind of partnership.

"My relationship with Luis is similar [to the one] with Wazza as well," the former Chelsea man added. "We get along on the football field and off it. It's easy to play with players like that, it makes your job easy and you can move around and bounce off each other.

"It's very easy to play with both of them. I wouldn't say that they are hugely different."
