Yaya Toure denies City unhappiness

Yaya Toure has denied rumours that he is unhappy at Manchester City.

The Ivory Coast international, a 2009 signing from Barcelona, took to Twitter to rebuff suggestions from the former City striker Rodney Marsh that he wants to leave the Etihad Stadium.

He then retweeted Marsh’s response, accepting he was wrong to infer the former Monaco player was unsettled.

Toure wrote: "Hey buddies, don’t listen to the rumours, I’m happy at City. How can I be unhappy when I get so much love and respect from everyone at City?"

The 30-year-old signed a four-year contract extension in April to keep him at City until 2017.

He has already scored seven times this season and has led City in the absence of skipper Vincent Kompany, with manager Manuel Pellegrini preferring Toure to Pablo Zabaleta as vice-captain.

Marsh had said on TalkSport: "People close to Manchester City tell me Yaya Toure is not very happy and he's one of their great players. When you start to hear rumblings from within the camp, and you see the way Toure played last weekend [in the 1-0 defeat at Sunderland], when he was strolling around and didn't look interested, I'm wondering now if it will all go a little bit the other way.

"It looks like they're throwing billions of pounds at players but keep coming up short. I think this season could end in tears at Man City."
