U.S. star Dempsey made the high-profile move from Tottenham to Seattle Sounders last January, but it seems his contract allows him to keep himself active ahead of the new MLS season next year.

“Clint’s contract allows him to go on loan for the off-season and all parties are working on a deal and we won't be surprised if it happens,” Seattle general manager Adrian Hanauer is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.

It seems certain that any move for Dempsey will only be temporary, with Hanauer confirming the presence of the forward in his team’s dressing room has been a huge boost in what was an indifferent campaign for the Sounders.

“Clint is a strong personality,” said Hanauer. “He is an absolutely fantastic personality for this team, but when you inject a strong personality in the middle of the season, it changes the dynamic a little bit.

“I think everybody can see the quality on the field. You don’t know what’s going on in the locker room, but he is going to be a great leader on this team for hopefully many years.”

Tottenham are reported to have the first option to re-sign Dempsey, while Fulham, Aston Villa and Everton also being linked with a move for the 30-year-old.

Meanwhile, Dempsey is expected to miss the U.S.’s friendly game against Scotland in Glasgow on Friday after picking up a calf injury in training on Wednesday.
