Zlatan: We deserve Brazil berth

Portugal vs. Sweden Nov 13, 2013

Portugal playoff Olsson's biggest game

Jonas Olsson insists his "Micky Mouse" row is history as he focuses on trying to guide Sweden to the World Cup finals at the expense of Jose Mourinho's Portugal.

Jonas Olsson says Sweden's two-legged playoff against Portugal will be the biggest games of his career.

• Ibra: Sweden deserve Brazil trip

West Bromwich Albion central defender Olsson was involved in a heated row in the tunnel with the Chelsea manager in the aftermath of the controversial 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.

Olsson has refused to enter into a war of words with Mourinho because he wants to focus on the crucial World Cup play-off against Portugal, but the irony of knocking out Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. so soon after the heated altercation cannot be ignored.

Sweden face Portugal on Friday night, before Tuesday's return in Stockholm and Olsson is determined to bring an end to his argument with Mourinho in the best possible fashion by making it to the World Cup finals in Brazil.

"The World Cup is not something that you want to miss, so these are two big games. They are the biggest of my career so, hopefully, I can play my part and help us qualify," Olsson told the Express and Star.

Olsson narrowly missed out on being named Swedish defensive player of the year to Norwich City's Martin Olsson at Sweden's annual awards earlier this week, but the 31-year-old wants to play a part in Lisbon on Friday night.

"It is a big tie to look forward to. My head has been with West Brom until now but now I can start focusing on Portugal and what is a really good game," he added.

"It’s every player’s dream to play in a World Cup, but a World Cup in Brazil would be even more special."

Olsson also believes that Albion are more than a mid-table side happy with every point they take in the top flight and have made a satisfactory, if frustrating start to the season.

Mourinho was dismissive of Steve Clarke's side but Olsson said: "I think we have a good squad and play good football and I don’t think we’ve got the points we deserve so far.

"But points will come. We are mid-table at the moment but I think we’re doing fine and we will get some more points on the board. We need to close games out and I thought we did enough to close out Saturday’s game but it wasn’t to be. We have shown this season we can play well against the top teams.

“We’ve played good games against Arsenal and Manchester United and apart from Liverpool we’ve done very well against the top teams. Hopefully we can keep this up and have a really good season."
