Arnold to leave Central Coast for Asia

Central Coast Mariners coach Graham Arnold will travel to Asia in the coming days to hold talks with a "top-flight" club, the A-League champions confirmed on Wednesday.

Graham Arnold bows out of the A-League a winner.
Arnold will make a final decision on his future by Sunday.

Although he is yet to secure a deal with the proposed club, which is reportedly in the J-League according to the Sydney Morning Herald, Central Coast have conceded Arnold is likely to leave.

Assistant Coach Phil Moss will temporarily take charge of the Mariners during Arnold's trip to Asia, but will permanently become the first team coach if the 50-year-old departs.

Central Coast Mariners Group General Manager, Peter Turnbull, said that the Club has been working on a succession plan for Arnold’s eventual departure for some time.

"The success of our Club over the past three seasons under Graham Arnold and his staff always meant Graham would receive interest from rival Hyundai A-League and foreign Clubs," Turnbull said. "As such, we have been planning for the past 18 months for Phil (Moss) to take on the role of Head Coach of the Club upon Graham’s departure. Of course, Graham has been helping prepare Phil for the position.

"We will know for certain by no later than Sunday whether or not Graham has finalised a deal in Asia, and will notify our members, fans, and media of any updates as soon as possible."

Arnold was a candidate for the Socceroos coaching job before Ange Postecoglou was appointed as Holger Osieck's successor.
