Wanderer Juric in doubt for Victory clash

A suspected knee injury has put Western Sydney young gun Tomi Juric in doubt for Saturday's near sell-out A-League clash with the Melbourne Victory.

The in-form Wanderers striker pulled up sore from Friday night's 1-0 win over the Melbourne Heart and coach Tony Popovic admits the early prognosis does not bode well for the 22-year-old.

"It's not as good as we thought he would be," Popovic said on Tuesday.

"His knee has pulled up sore. He's seeing a specialist and doing all the right things.

"We're hoping it's nothing serious, but we're still waiting to find out exactly the extent of his injury."

Juric has scored three of the Wanderers' seven goals this season, his top attacking form earning him a special mention by new Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou.

The Wanderers could also be without key playmaker Youssouf Hersi for Saturday's fixture at Pirtek Stadium.

Hersi, who has missed the past two matches with a foot injury, didn't take to the field for training on Tuesday but Popovic said he is progressing.

"It's a bit of a unique injury that he got and it really is a day-by-day proposition," he said.

"Today he feels good and we hope to get him out on the field for the rest of the week. If he can get through that then he'll be available."

Injury is not a concern for Michael Beauchamp, yet the skipper might find himself fighting for a start after being dropped in favour of debutant Matthew Spiranovic last week.

Popovic insisted Beauchamp's axing had nothing to do with his performance but stopped short of guaranteeing his return on Saturday.

"Michael's done nothing wrong - he's played well. It was just a decision that was made and it's not due to form," he said.

"It was a decision made for that game and he understands that.

"I'm sure he'll be prepared and if he gets the opportunity this week, he'll continue on with the great form he's shown so far.

"We'll see what happens this week, we'll all prepare well and we'll finalise the squad closer to the game."
