Jose: Chelsea atmosphere not the best

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has told GetWestLondon that Stamford Bridge does not have "a very hot atmosphere."

• Brewin: Three Things: Chelsea vs. West Brom

Mourinho's counterpart at Tottenham, Andre Villas-Boas, was recently critical of the club's fans at White Hart Lane, labelling it "very negative."

Speaking after Chelsea's controversial 2-2 draw with West Brom, Mourinho said that Chelsea's home ground sometimes lacks vocal support.

"This is Stamford Bridge's nature,” Mourinho said. “We know that our fans are in love with the club, more than in any other club or the same, but it is a different profile.

“We know Stamford Bridge is not a very hot atmosphere, not a very strong atmosphere normally, and we accept that.

“But in the last part of the game, when they felt the players were up to have a go and a fight, they were very much behind the team and they support the team.”

Tim Rolls, of the Chelsea Supporters Trust, accepted that Mourinho's comments were fair.

He said: “We, as a Trust, have had dialogue with the club and atmosphere came up. The atmosphere isn't all it could be and that's been represented to the club by both us and the Fans Forum (on which the Trust is represented).

“There are a number of contributory factors: the lack of young people, who are more inclined to sing; the lack of standing in the ground; and the cost of getting a ticket are all part of it.

“We need to get more people in to Stamford Bridge who want to sing. And, from my point of view, that means more younger people.”

Chelsea's late salvaging of a point against West Brom on Saturday ensured Mourinho remains unbeaten at home in the league as Blues boss.
