Veteran Rivaldo leaves 2nd-division club i

Former Brazil and Barcelona forward Rivaldo says he is leaving Brazilian club Sao Caetano because of knee pain.

The 41-year-old player made the announcement through his official Twitter account on Thursday, saying he "was not able to recover from pain".

Rivaldo joined Sao Caetano in January and had been playing sparingly. The club is next-to-last in the second division with five rounds left and in danger of relegation.

Rivaldo's last top club was Sao Paulo, where he also played sparingly in 2011. He played a few matches with Angola's Kabuscorp last year.

The 1999 world player of the year thrived with Barcelona in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

He was key for Brazil when it won the 2002 World Cup title in South Korea and Japan.
