South African side Orlando Pirates claimed a 1-1 draw with Al Ahly of Egypt in the CAF Champions League first leg match in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Al Ahly, the defending champions, took the lead early in the first-half via a Mohamed Aboutrika free-kick.
However, the home side struck back through Thabo Matlaba, who scored the equaliser in injury-time to set up an enticing second-leg, which will be played in Cairo next Sunday.
"We have something to play for," said Orlando coach Roder de Sa. "A 1-1 draw at home not the greatest result, but I believe we can score there in Egypt. We will attack in the second leg and hope for the best."
De Sa's Al Ahly counterpart Mohamed Youssef said: "A 1-1 draw away from home is a fair result. There is still another 90 minutes to be played in Cairo. We hope to change our approach at home and we will win."
